# cfn.limit

> An AWS service quota was exceeded

CloudFormation could not create a resource because your AWS account has reached a service quota. The failure came from your AWS account's configuration, permissions, or limits. Nothing in your code caused it.

## Why this happens

* An account-level service quota is at its ceiling. Common examples are VPCs per region, Elastic IP addresses, and running EC2 instances.
* Quotas are per account and per region, so a deploy that works in one region can hit a limit in another.

## How to fix it

1. Identify the quota from the provider reason on the deployment's detail page. CloudFormation's verbatim status reason names the resource type and the limit that was hit.
2. Request an increase in the AWS Service Quotas console for that quota in the target region. Most increases are granted within hours.
3. Alternatively, remove unused resources of the same type to free capacity, for example unattached Elastic IPs or VPCs from abandoned experiments.
4. Run `fjall deploy` again once the quota has headroom.

## What Fjall shows you

The failure surfaces on the deployment's detail page on fjall.io, in the CLI's Error Detail block, and in the deployments list row title. The detail page carries the stable code, a per-occurrence detail sentence, the provider's verbatim reason, and the remediation steps, along with the root cause resource from the stack analysis.
